Happy 241st Birthday to the United States Marine Corps!

Today is the United States Marine Corps 241st Birthday.

The United States Marine Corps was founded on 10 November 1775 in a bar named Tun Tavern in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

So in honor of The United States Marine Corps I am going to list 5 things some of you may not know.

“The Fightin’ Quaker” and Tun Tavern

Back in 1775, Captain Samuel Nicholas, also known as “The Fightin’ Quaker, was commissioned as in Officer once The Marine Corps was officially approved to join The American Revolution. Another thing that is very interesting is that recruitment to join The Marine Corps was through a bar named Tun Tavern.

Semper Fidelis was not always The USMC Motto

“Semper Fidelis” which means Always Faithful, was not always he Marine Corps Motto. The original motto actually had 3 unofficial motto’s before that which were “By Sea and by Land”, “Fortitudine”, and “To the Shores of Tripoli”. Semper Fi was officially made the motto in 1883
